Ladytron

I’ve heard a little Ladytron before (Seventeen, Destroy Everything You Touch), and have loved the 80’s synthy backgrounds and ethereal vocals. The music seems bouncy, something you might hear in a club, but then you’re not really sure, especially when the lyrics have a darker, more subversive feel to them (”They only want you when your seventeen, when you’re twenty-one, you’re no fun). Anyway, heard this track on Pitchfork and it sounds goooooood:

Sunny Sunday

It’s a beautiful Sunday out, like 70 degrees and it’s only 10:30am.  My friend is letting me use her office (small, but only $250 a month) and it’s FUCKING AWESOME.  I’m so productive here that it’s scary, and I wish wish wish I could afford to do this.  I realize I’m just not someone who works well (practically or creatively) from home.  The rest of the building is SILENT, so I’m just going to sit here and work distraction free, writing, reading, and doing a little web site work, and then walk out the front door to the lake, get some lunch and soak up some of this amazing sun.

I’m done with the majority of work I have to do for school, and there’s only a few more weeks of classes.  This has been a tough semester for me, but, thankfully, I’m leaving it with encouragement and motivation.  There were a few times that I was ready to say fuck this, and just go get a real job.  Workshops are, at least in part, part of the problem.  They can be really good when they’re good, but the vast majority are bad, and when they’re bad, they can be really fucking bad.  The two I was in this semester ended up pulling out of the “completely sucked” zone into something worthwhile, but just.

This summer is going to be about committing myself to finding a good way to balance work, school, and pure creative time (yea, right, good luck).  I’m hoping to get some more web site work to fund some fun my life (including a road trip to New Mexico on the bike, new tattoos, a new Mac).

P.S.  I love Oakland.  On my way down the street I had three completely separate people say good morning to me
